Piezo1 and KCa3.1 – two vital ion channels in red blood cells (RBCs) – play a critical role in regulating cell volume and maintaining membrane integrity. Mutations in Piezo1 and KCa3.1 are associated with dehydrated hereditary stomatocytosis and hereditary xerocytosis. High-throughput electrophysiological methods enable exploration of the functional properties of ion channels in RBCs, providing insights into their physiological and pathological roles.
