Sophion travel grant

We award travel grants to MSc, PhD students and early career researchers within five years of their BSc/MSc/PhD in ion channel-related research.

The Sophion travel grant can be applied for by anyone, who has performed research in the field of ion channel modulation and characterization, using one of Sophion’s platforms, and would like to present their data (poster and oral presentation) at any ion channel conference. Or if you would like to attend Sophion’s Ion Channel Modulation Symposium presenting any channel data (irrespective of recording technique).

The following requirements apply:

  • A travel grant covers expenses for a stay abroad (travel cost and hotel)
  • The applicant is enrolled or employed at a higher education institution
  • A senior researcher at the applicant’s institution or their advisor must endorse the application

Sophion research grant

Sophion awards research grants to post‑graduate students and early‑career researchers within five years of completing a BSc, MSc, or PhD in electrophysiology, drug discovery, or closely related scientific disciplines.

Eligible applicants are researchers proposing to use Sophion’s automated patch‑clamp (APC) platforms for the characterization or modulation of ion channels, or Ethica M, Sophion’s automated microphysiological system (MPS) contractility platform, for the functional assessment of human‑relevant tissue contractility.

Grants support post‑graduate or early‑career researchers undertaking defined research projects hosted at Sophion Bioscience, including projects conducted within the framework of Sophion’s Technology Access Program.

For the upcoming call, priority will be given to projects addressing the following focus areas:

  1. MPS Contractility Assays (Ethica M)
Evaluation of contractile function using automated, human‑relevant microphysiological systems.
  2. APC Ion Channel Modulation
Functional evaluation of organellar ion channels, including but not limited to lysosomal and mitochondrial targets, using automated patch‑clamp technologies.

The following requirements apply:

  • The research grant covers laboratory expenses and accommodation for a period of one to ten weeks at one of Sophion’s laboratories in Copenhagen, Boston, Tokyo, or Shanghai
  • Applicants must be enrolled at or employed by a higher education or research institution
  • Applications must be endorsed by a senior researcher or academic advisor at the applicant’s home institution

Application deadlines occur twice annually:

  • 20 May
  • 20 November
